Golfsmith.com was the online presence of Golfsmith International Holdings Inc., a prominent golf specialty retailer. Founded in 1967 by Carl and Barbara Paul, Golfsmith began as a custom golf club components supplier. Over the years, it expanded to offer a wide range of golf clubs, shoes, apparel, gadgets, and gear from major brands, along with proprietary offerings. The company also provided custom club fitting, lessons, and services for golfers.
Golfsmith operated over 100 retail stores in the US and Canada, making it one of the largest golf specialty retailers. In 2012, the company was acquired by the Canadian pension fund OMERS, which also owned Golf Town, the largest golf retailer in Canada. Together, they operated as Golfsmith International.
In 2016, Golfsmith filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was subsequently acquired by Dick's Sporting Goods. Most Golfsmith stores were either closed or rebranded as Golf Galaxy, another brand owned by Dick's Sporting Goods. The website, golfsmith.com, offered online shopping, product reviews, streaming videos about products, and services such as golf handicap tracking and live online customer service.
Golfsmith's legacy in the golf industry remains significant, having transformed club repair shops into custom golf club makers and providing a comprehensive range of golf-related products and services.
